Ponce de León...Spanish sources asserted that the Taino Indians of the Caribbean also spoke of a magic fountain and rejuvenating river that existed somewhere north of Cuba. He was told it was north of Cuba by people he was torturing, so you know they lied.
These rumors conceivably reached the ears of Ponce de León, who is thought to have accompanied Christopher Columbus on his second voyage to the New World in 1493. After helping to brutally crush a Taino rebellion on Hispaniola in 1504, Ponce de León was granted a provincial governorship and hundreds of acres of land, where he used forced Indian labor to raise crops and livestock. In 1508 he received royal permission to colonize San Juan Bautista (now Puerto Rico). He became the island’s first governor a year later, but was soon pushed out in a power struggle with Christopher Columbus’ son Diego.

The Texans from Texas...Historically the Texans, who originally dug the wells which were excavated by hand with shovels to below the water table until incoming water exceeded the digger's bailing rate. The wells were lined with stones, brick, tile, or other material to prevent collapse, and was covered with a cap of wood, stone, or concrete.
Back when records began, oil wells were an average of 3,635 feet deep. But that was 65 years ago - and since 1949 we have used up these 'shallow' reserves. Oil is a finite resource, meaning we now have to dig deeper to find it - with the 2008 average depth coming in at an average of 5,964 feet.

The History
As the story goes 60 years ago, Texas came to the Cayman Islands looking for oil.
They set up their oil rigs in the bush and drilled. They drilled to 490 feet looking for oil
they hit something else. It shot 2 stories in the sky they caped it off and left. It’s been slowly coming out for 60 years. These are photographs of the rigs and piping that were left 60 years ago . The Cayman water lens can be touched at 20 feet. That’s why they used pipes that were almost a foot wide to go way deeper.

artesian wells
Wells are holes dug down into the aquifer to obtain groundwater. When there is no impermeable layer between the aquifer and the surface it is called an open aquifer, which is the most common type of aquifer tapped by hand-dug wells. When the aquifer is overlain by an impermeable layer and the water is under pressure that forces it up to the surface through any openings, it is an artesian aquifer. Wells that tap artesian aquifers are artesian wells. Water flows up and out of artesian wells naturally because water enters the aquifer at a higher level creating pressure that forces the water up the well.
Water lily, (family Nymphaeaceae), any of 58 species in 6 genera of freshwater plants native to the temperate and tropical parts of the world. Most species of water lilies have rounded, variously notched, waxy-coated leaves on long stalks that contain many air spaces and float in quiet freshwater habitats.
The blue water lily, also known as the blue lotus or sacred blue lily, is prominently featured on the pillars, stone alters and other parts of ancient Egyptian temples. It holds a significant place in Egyptian mythology and is regarded as a symbol of the sun and a sign of rebirth.
